What is Phentermine ?
Phentermine
diet pills are a prescription-based appetite suppressant. Phentermine first
received approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1959 as an
appetite suppressant for the short-term treatment of obesity. Phentermine
resin became available in the United States in 1959 and Phentermine
Hydrochloride in the early 1970s. In the US, Phentermine is currently sold
under the brand names Ionamin® (Medeva Pharmaceuticals) and Adipex-P® (Gate
Pharmaceuticals). It is also available as a generic medication, known as 'phentermine'.
Previously, it was sold under the name Fastin® (formerly produced by King

Phentermine use in the
Popular Fen Phen
Until late 1997's,Phentermine was
also been used in combination with dexfenfluramine ("dexfen-phen").
Fenfluramine ("fen") and phentermine ("phen") are
prescription medications that have been approved by the FDA for many years as
appetite suppressants for the short-term (a few weeks) management of obesity. Recently,
some physicians have prescribed fenfluramine or dexfenfluramine in combination
with phentermine, often for extended periods of time, for use in weight loss
programs. Use of drugs in ways other than described in the FDA-approved label is
called an "off-label use". While there are no medical studies that
directly link phentermine only usage to PPH or valvular heart disease,
many former diet drug patients have complained of heart murmurs, rapid heart
beat, chest pains and other similiar Fen Phen type of side effects and
symptoms.
